30 Preston Pl
Grosse Pointe Farms, MI

Tucked away on a secluded cul de sac lies one of the last remaining mansions in Grosse Pointe. 30 Preston Place, was originally built for Louis Webber, the niece of J.L.Hudson in 1932. Designed by prominent architect, Duncan Candler, who designed several prestigious estates out East for families like the Rockefellers and the Skyland Estate for Edsel Ford which is now owned by Martha Steward. The almost 8,900+ sq foot home originally sat on 10 acres. It was known as 486 Kercheval, the address sign hangs proudly in the home bar. Just the 3rd owners, husband and wife team, luxury builder and designer/real estate agent purchased the historical mansion in 2017 with their combined five children with a mission to restore it to its original glory. Updates and improvements were made to provide all of todays comforts and luxuries but attention was paid to honor the homes character, from restoring the original Chrysler Koppin ice box refrigerators, to refurbishing thousands of pieces of brass hardware to the Pewabic Pottery said to be installed personally by Mary Chase Perry Stratton, a personal close friend to Mrs. Webber. The teak wood library by famous carver William Zorak who’s work appears in the Smithsonian and the M.E.T. is a favorite spot of the family. The home is filled with intricate plaster and woodworking not seen in todays homes. Taking three years to complete, Its been a labor of love for sure! We would
like to thank the Grosse Pointe Historical Society for their research on this amazing property.
